StellarMap was created with one mission: to make astronomy accessible to everyone. Whether you're a backyard stargazer with a pair of binoculars, a student writing a paper on planetary science, or a hobbyist planning an astrophotography session, our tools are designed to help you navigate the night sky with confidence.
What We Offer
Our collection includes over 40 free astronomy and space tools, from simple moon phase calendars to sophisticated calculations for telescope setups and space mission planning. Each tool is built using real astronomical data and established formulas — no approximations, no guesswork.
We also publish in-depth articles covering topics across astrophysics, planetary science, space exploration, and observational astronomy. Our articles are written to be informative and engaging, balancing scientific accuracy with readability.
Our Story
The idea for StellarMap came from years of frustration. Between different apps, textbooks, websites, and specialized software, finding the right piece of information was harder than it should be. We wanted to create one place where anyone could come to understand the cosmos — from checking when the next solar eclipse occurs, to calculating magnification for a telescope eyepiece, to learning how black holes form.
We believe astronomy is one of the most inspiring sciences. When you look up at the night sky, you're seeing the same stars that humans have used for navigation, storytelling, and scientific discovery for thousands of years. StellarMap is our way of helping people connect with that tradition.
Our Values
🆓 Free for Everyone
Every tool on StellarMap is completely free. No signup, no paywall, no subscriptions. Astronomy should be accessible to all.
🔬 Science-Based
Our calculators use real astronomical data and established formulas. We cite our sources and explain our methodology.
📱 Mobile Friendly
Use StellarMap from your phone during observing sessions. All tools are responsive and work on any device.
🔄 Always Improving
We regularly update our tools and add new content as space science advances and our community provides feedback.
What You Can Find Here
Observing Tools
For anyone who enjoys stargazing, we offer tools to track the moon phases, find planet positions, plan observing sessions around sunrise and sunset times, check light pollution levels, and evaluate sky conditions. These tools are designed to be used at the telescope or in the field.
Telescope Calculators
If you own a telescope, our magnification, focal length, exit pupil, and field of view calculators help you get the most out of your equipment. Understanding these concepts transforms a good observing session into a great one.
Space & Astrophysics Tools
We also offer tools for more advanced topics: escape velocity from planets, stellar luminosity comparisons, orbital period calculations, travel time to planets, and more. These are great for students and anyone curious about how the universe works.
Astrophotography Tools
Deep sky imaging requires careful planning. Our exposure time, tracking accuracy, field curvature, and image scale calculators help astrophotographers plan successful imaging sessions.
Contact Us
We love hearing from our users. Whether you have a suggestion for a new tool, found an error in our calculations, want to contribute an article, or just want to share your stargazing experience — reach out through our contact page.
Acknowledgements
StellarMap's tools and content draw on publicly available astronomical data from NASA, the IAU, JPL, and other scientific institutions. We are grateful to the global astronomy community for maintaining open-access databases that make projects like this possible.
